MRS. JESS GOWDY

Mrs. Etna J. Gowdy, of Blue Mountain, died at the Baptist Hospital in Memphis at seven o'clock Sunday evening, having become ill while visiting her daughter,  Mrs. Charles A. Tavel.  The funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon at three o'clok at the Blue Mountain Cemetery, with Rev. Bill R. Peacock in charge.

She was a lifelong citizen of Blue Mountain, and widow of the late Jess Gowdy, long-time Blue Mountain barber.  She was an active member of the Lowrey Memorial Baptist Church, was on the Sunday School teaching staff, and active in the WMU and Training Union departments.

She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Tavel and Mrs. A. Eugene Beck, of Annapolis, Maryland; a sister, Mrs. J. E. Norris of Memphis; and two grandchildren.
